Shab-e-Miraj 2020

Shab e Miraj is a blessed night in the history of Islam and is significant for Muslims around the world today as well. It is a night in which Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) went to the heavens and then to the highest stage to meet Allah (SWT). Shab e Miraj is very important event in the history of Islam which was divided in two parts known as Isra and Miraj.


When did Shab e Miraj take place?

Shab e Miraj took place in the Islamic month of Rajab. It was the night of 26th Rajab when this great event of Shab e Miraj took place.

What is Isra?

Isra is a part of the event of Shab e Miraj which was a night journey. Holy Prophet (SAWW) didn’t directly go to the heavens from Makkah. Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) first travelled to Masjid Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem from Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah on the back of Buraq. This night journey from Makkah to Jerusalem is called Isra.

What is Miraj?

Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) then travelled from Masjid Al-Aqsa to the heavens and Sidra tul Muntaha and met Allah (SWT). This ascension from Masjid Al-Aqsa to the heavens and highest stage is called Miraj.






Gift of Namaz

It was the event of Shab e Miraj in which Holy Prophet (SAWW) was given the special gift of namaz. Firstly, Allah (SWT) made fifty prayers a day obligatory for the Muslims but later, on the request of Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW), the number of prayers was reduced from fifty to five. Thus, it was the event of Shab e Miraj on which namaz became obligatory for the Muslims which also shows the great importance of salat.


Importance of Shab e Miraj?

Shab e Miraj is very important event in the history of Islam. On this night, Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) met with the Creator of Universe which in itself is a very great event. Moreover, Holy Prophet (SAWW) saw the conditions of different people in hell and heaven during the ascension which make Shab e Miraj very significant. Also, namaz became obligatory on Shab e Miraj which further shows the importance of this event. Furthermore, Shab e Miraj is important because it was a great miracle.

Mention of Shab e Miraj in Quran:

“Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al- Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.” (Quran, 17:1)
