Islam is a very comprehensive religion that provides good to the humanity in every way. From very little to very massive, Islam talks about everything and gives solution to every problem. Likewise, Islam also sheds light on the rights of neighbours.
Islam has given great importance to the rights of neighbours which shows that Islam can make a social system of any community very strong. Both in Quran and Ahadees, rights of neighbours are given good importance.
Following are the Quranic verses that clearly states about the rights of neighbours;
In the above mentioned Quranic verses, order of doing goodness to neighbours has been given. In the first verse, it is said that Muslims should do act of goodness to the neighbours who are relatives and who are not. This shows that goodness must be done to neighbours no matter what links you share with them.
In the second verse, similarly, it is asked to do goodness to the neighbours no matter they are near or stranger along with order of serving God and preventing from shirk. This again tells us that kindness should be showed to the neighbours no matter you know them or not.
In the above mentioned Ahadees, certain rights of neighbours are mentioned. In first hadith, there is a reflection of right of sharing the meals with neighbours. The second hadith talks about the right of safety that is ensured by one neighbour to another. In short, the second hadith talks about that we should be kind to our neighbours and there must be no threat from us to them. We shouldn’t harm our neighbours.
Lastly, some other rights of neighbours include giving them gifts, helping them, preventing them from sins, congratulating them on good news, giving them loans, and taking care of them. Thus, ensuring the rights of neighbours surely make a productive society that is necessary for development.
