Quran is the last book of Allah which was revealed on the Holy Prophet (SAWW). It is a book of guidance that guides Muslims in all aspects of life. From very little to big things, Quran tells Muslims how to live a proper life. There are different rules and regulations about distinct things in Quran which guide the Muslims in their daily life affairs.
Quran is the primary source of knowledge for the Muslims. For any issue and any matter, Muslims first look into Quran for the solution and answer as it is the primary source of knowledge for them. After that, Muslims go for secondary and other sources of knowledge. The revelation of Quran was a great thing for the Muslims.
Quran was revealed on Holy Prophet (SAWW) through Angel Jibraeel. The revelation of Quran was started in the month of Ramzan on its 27th date and it was completed in 23 years. Holy Prophet (SAWW) was 40 years old when he received first revelation.
The first revelation was revealed in Cave Hira on the Holy Prophet (SAWW) and the account of first revelation is as follow:
“The angel came to the Prophet (SAWW) and asked him to read. The Prophet (SAWW) answered, ‘I don’t know how to read’. The Prophet (SAWW) also said, ‘The angel caught me (forcibly) and pressed me so hard that I couldn’t bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read and I answered, “I don’t know how to read”. Upon this, he caught me again and pressed me a second time till I couldn’t bear it anymore. He then released me and again asked me to read, but again I answered, “I don’t know how to read” (or what shall I read?). Upon this, he caught me for the third time and pressed me, and then released me and said: “Read in the name of your Lord who created -created man from a clot. Read: for your Lord is Most Bountiful, who teaches by the pen, teaches man that which he knew not.” [Quran, 96: 1-5]
After this revelation, the Prophet (SAWW) went back to his home. His heart was beating and he asked Hazrat Khadijah (RA) to cover him. Hazrat Khadijah (RA) covered him and when he recovered he told Hazrat Khadijah (RA) everything that happened to him. Hazrat Khadijah (RA) then took the Holy Prophet (SAWW) to her cousin, Warqah Bin Nawfil who became Christian in the days of ignorance. He used to write down the Arabic script and also from Gospel. When Hazrat Khadijah (RA) told him about the whole thing he said that the Prophet (SAWW) received the revelation like Hazrat Musa (AS) received revelation by Hazrat Jibraeel (AS). It was clear that Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) is the Prophet of Allah.
After first revelation, Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) received many revelations in the time of 23 years. Allah Himself has taken the responsibility of protection of Quran. Till today, Quran is present in its original form and none can change it as Allah is protecting it. Muslims must know the history about the revelation of Quran as it’s necessary for all of us.
