In Ramadan 2019 – important dua and how to pray taraweeh are two things many Muslims may want to know. As people don’t recite the duas they recite in Ramadan all the year and they don’t offer taraweeh in months other than Ramadan, so, some may forget the duas and method of offering tarawih. Therefore, eQuran Academy has decided to help people recall in Ramadan 2019 – important dua and how to pray tarawih.
Important duas:
For Ramadan 2019 – important dua and how to pray tarawih are our two main topics for today. So, before method of tarawee we will mention about important duas that are recited in Ramadan. The two most important duas of Ramadan are that of sehri and iftari. Both the duas are as follow;
Dua at end of sehri:
وَبِصَوْمِ غَدٍ نَّوَيْتُ مِنْ شَهْر رَمَضَانَ
Translation: “I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow in the month of Ramadan.”
Dua at start of iftar:
اللَّهُمَّ اِنِّى لَكَ صُمْتُ وَبِكَ امنْتُ وَعَليْكَ تَوَكّلتُ وَ عَلى رِزْقِكَ اَفْطَرْتُ
Translation: “O Allah! I fasted for You and I believe in You and I put my trust in You and I break my fast with Your sustenance.”
Method of offering taraweeh
Now we will discuss the method of taraweh. Tarawih is offered in Ramadan with isha prayer. After we pray the four rikaat farz and two rikaat sunnat of isha prayer then we offer tarawee. Muslims usually pray ten sunnats (twenty rikaat in ten sunnats) after two rikaat sunnat of isha prayer. Then after tenth sunnat, Muslims offer three rikaat vittar and here the isha prayer with tarawih ends.
Following are the steps involved in the parts of isha namaz but before them wuzu is performed.

Four rikaat farz of isha prayer:
Firstly, four rikaat farz of isha prayer is offered just like we pray it in our routine.

Two rikaat sunnat of isha prayer:
Then two rikaat sunnat of isha prayer is offered the same way it is prayers by the Muslims everyday.

Ten sunnats of tarawee:
After two rikaat sunnat of isha prayer, ten sunnats of tarawee are offered in a way that firstly, two rikaat sunnat of tarawee is offered the same way we offer sunnat in our daily prayers. Then after first sunnat, other nine sunnats of tarawee are offered likewise.
The steps of two rikaat sunnat of tarawee are:
First Rikaat
- Neeyat is the first step of two rikaat sunnat of taraweeh. We state our neeyat (intention) that we are going to pray the two rikaat sunnat of tarawee. In the neeyat we say, “I intend to perform two rikaat sunnat of taraweeh for Allah at the time of Isha with my face towards Khana Kabah,” and then we raise hands in a manner in the image below in this blog and say, “Allahu Akbar.”
- After neeyat, first rikaat of two rikaat sunnat of tarawee is offered. In first rikaat after neeyat, while folding hands on chest, we recite Subhanaka then taaooz, then tasmeeh and then Surat ul Fatiha. After Surah e Fatiha, we recite a surat of Quran. Usually, Muslims recite Surah e Ikhlas or any surah from the last ten surats of Quran. After reciting Surah e Ikhlas, “Allahu Akbar” is said again. Then we go in Ruku and recite, “Subhana Rabbiyal Azeem” three times. Then we return to the standing position and recite, “Sami Allahu Liman hamida rabbana lakal hamd.” After that, we again say Allahu Akbar in the same standing position. Then we go to prostration (sajdah) and recite, “Subhana Rabbiyal Ala” After sajdah we rise, sit and say, “Allahu Akbar.” Then we again go in sajdah and say “Subhana Rabbiyal Ala” thrice and rise, sit and say, “Allahu Akbar” again. Here first rikaat of tarawee gets over.
Second Rikaat
- At completion of first rikaat, we stand up again for second rikaat and recite Surah e Fatiha with Surah ikhlas in the same standing position while folding the hands on chest. Same steps of saying Takbir, performing ruku, two sajdahs and all other steps involved in the first rikaat are performed in second rikaat. After second sajdah in second rikaat, while sitting in the position shown below in an image, we recite At-tahiyyat then tashahhud with first finger of right hand raised. Then we lower down the finger after reciting tashahhud till “muhammadan” and continue the recitation of remaining part of tashahhud. Then we recite darood shareef and Rabbana or Rabb-e-ja’alni.
- After reciting Rabbana or Rabb-e-ja’alni we turn our face towards right side or right shoulder and say, “As Salaam-u alaikum wa rahmatullahe wabarakatu.” Then we turn our face towards left side and say again, “As Salaam-u alaikum wa rahmatullahe wabarakatu.” This is called salam and two rikaat sunnat of tarawee is finished here.
- After this first sunnat, then we pray other nine sunnats likewise.

Three rikaat vittar of isha prayer:
Then after we finish the ten sunnats of tarawee, we offer three rikaat vittar of isha prayer just we do everyday. After vittar, the isha prayer with tarawee ends.
