Laylatul qadr is a night when Quran was first revealed on Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) in the month of Ramadan. This night is one of the last ten nights of Ramadan. There is a great importance of this night in Islam. There is also the mention of this night in Quran which shows its significance.
There different names given to this night. It is also the night of power. The Laylatul Qadr is also called as the night of decree. Moreover, it has also a name of the night of measures. Among other names, the night of destiny and the night of value are also included.
There is no exact or one date of Laylatul Qadr but from the hadith, we can know that when the night of power takes place. Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) stated to seek the night of decree in one of the last ten odd nights of Ramadan. Thus, this shows that night of power can be on 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th nights of Ramzan so we should seek it in those nights. As the exact date of Laylatul Qadr is not known thus, we can do more and more ibadat in this way as we seek this night in all last ten odd nights of Ramadan and get great rewards in the month of Ramzan.
There is a great importance of Laylatul Qadr in Islam and for Muslims. This night is important because Quran was revealed first time in this night. Thus, Muslims give great importance to this night and do ibadah on last ten odd nights of Ramadan to seek the night of power.
“The month of Ramadhan, that in which the Qur’an was sent down; a guidance for mankind, and clear signs of guidance and distinction…” (Quran, 2:185)
There is also a mention of Lailatul Qadr in Quran that shows that this night is really important.
“Indeed, We revealed [the Qur’an] during the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.” (Quran, 97:1-5)
In ahadees, there is a mention of the night of power which shows the significance of this night.
“Whoever prays on Laylatul Qadr out of faith and sincerity, shall have all their past sins forgiven.” (Bukhari and Muslim)
Reported by Hazrat Anas bin Malik (RA): “Ramadan approached, so the Messenger of God (SAWW) said: ‘This month has come to you, and in it there is a night that is better than a thousand months. Whoever is deprived of it is deprived of all goodness, and no one is deprived of its goodness except one who is truly deprived.’”
From the verses of Quran and Ahadees, we can clearly understand the importance of Lailatul Qadr and the significance of ibadat in this night. Thus, in this Ramzan, we should try our best to seek this night and do lots of ibadat, zikr and duas in this night as good deeds practiced in Laylatul Qadr are equal to that done over a thousand months.
