Holy Quran is the book of guidance revealed on Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW). It is the last book which was revealed on the last Prophet of Allah. Quran was revealed to guide the Muslims and they must know about the basics teachings of the Holy Quran to live a successful life. Moreover, the teachings of Quran provide us with the stories of the prophets of Allah who came before Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW). Thus, by the stories of those prophets, we can learn many lessons.
Quran is a complete book in which there is a solution of every problem. In the times of trouble, we can seek help from Quran as this great book has a healing power. The Holy Quran guides us about how to respond to any calamity. It also teaches us about how to react when we are happy or when we get successful. The Holy Book of Allah tells us about our rights and duties. Thus, this book is comprehensive and our primary source of knowledge which is perfect.
The basic teachings of the Holy Quran are the belief, prayer and the good deeds. The belief can include the basic beliefs of the Muslims. While prayer can include the five daily prayers of the Muslims. Moreover, the good deeds can include several acts of kindness about which Quran guides us. There are many good deeds like speaking truth, doing justice and fulfilling promises etc., which are mentioned in the Holy Quran.
Believing that Allah is One and Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) is the last Messenger of Allah is the basic belief of the Muslims. It is also the first pillar of Islam. Moreover, believing in the angels of Allah, prophets of Allah, books of Allah and Akhirah are also the basic beliefs of the Muslims about which the Quran teaches us. In Quran, it is stated, “Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets…” (Quran, 2:177)
Prayer or namaz is the second pillar of Islam about which there is guidance in Quran. We can learn about namaz from the Holy Quran as there is a mention of Salah in Quran multiple times. We offer namaz five times a day and there is great importance of namaz in Islam. Namaz can help us to build our bond with Allah (SWT). Moreover, there are many physical benefits of praying five times a day as well. The Quranic verses’ translations about prayer are following;
“Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds and establish prayer…” (Quran, 2:277)
“O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.” (Quran, 2:153)
Quran is a book that guides us about how to behave with manners. It is a back that teaches us to have good morals. Thus, Holy Quran tells us about various good deeds which we must practice in our life. Moreover, Quran also asks as to avoid bad deeds. Having good morals not only mean to do good deeds but it also means to avoid bad deeds like backbiting etc. Thus, some of the good deeds are discussed below about which there is a mention in the Holy Quran.
Quran clearly guides us about truthfulness. It is a good deed to speak truth and always support truth. In Quran, there is a mention of truthfulness which not only shows its importance but also teaches us about speaking truth. We should always speak truth no matter how hard it is. Speaking truth will never cause us any harm and will give us benefits in the form of rewards in Akhirah. Following are some Quranic verses’ translations about truthfulness;
“O you who have believed, fear Allah and be with those who are true.” (Quran, 9:119)
“Allah will say, “This is the Day when the truthful will benefit from their truthfulness.” For them are gardens [in Paradise] beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, Allah being pleased with them, and they with Him. That is the great attainment.” (Quran, 5:119)
Honesty means to be truthful and avoiding telling lies plus deception. However, honesty is a broad word with broad definition. In Quran, there are verses which guides us to be honest. Moreover, from the stories of prophets mentioned in Quran, we can learn more about honesty. Following is one of the Quranic verses’ translations that teaches us about honesty and we should learn from it.
“Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due…” (Quran, 4:58)
Parents are one of the great people a person can have in his/her life. They sacrifice for us a lot so that we can be happy always. They take care of our needs and Allah has given them rights. Children have to fulfil those rights of parents among which respecting them and being kind with them are two of them. Showing kindness to parents is one of the good deeds mentioned in Quran and the translation of the following Quranic verse guides us about it;
“And your Lord has decreed that you should worship no one except Him, and that you should show kindness to your parents. Whether one or both of them reach old age with you, don’t say the slightest harsh word to them out of irritation and don’t be harsh with them but speak to them with gentleness and generosity.” (Quran 17:23)
Zakat is one of the pillars of Islam and Quran gives us instructions about it clearly. It can also be called as a poor due. Zakat purifies our hearts from greed. We can earn great rewards by paying Zakat. It is one of the many good deeds about which there is a mention in the Holy Quran. The following translation of the verse of Surah Tawbah clearly tells us about the recipients of zakat;
“Zakat expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect [zakah] and for bringing hearts together [for Islam] and for freeing captives [or slaves] and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah and for the [stranded] traveler – an obligation [imposed] by Allah. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.” (Surah Tawbah, Verse:60)
Fasting in Ramadan is one of the pillars of Islam. Muslims are required to fast from dawn to dusk in Ramadan. Fasting is a great deed about which the Holy Quran guides us as well. Ramadan is a month of blessings in which fasting is a great deed which can help us attain great rewards. In Holy Quran, it is stated about fasting as,“Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may attain taqwaa.” (Quran, 2:183)
Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam. It is performed in the last month of the Islamic calendar. Muslims from around the world perform Hajj every year. It is a great deed and an act of worship which has many rewards. Quran guides us about Hajj as well. It is stated in the Holy Quran, “It is no crime in you, if you seek of the bounty of your Lord (during pilgrimage).” (Surah Al-Baqarah 198)
Tawakkul means to trust and rely on Allah truly and completely. It is a great deed that gives Muslims great benefits. In the teachings of Quran, there is also guidance about Tawakkul. It is stated in Quran, “The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely.” (Quran, 8:2) Another Quranic verse about tawakkul is [Translation], “Say, “Never will we be struck except by what Allah has decreed for us; He is our protector.” And upon Allah let the believers rely.” (Quran, 9:51)
Justice is a very important good deed that protects the people from any kind of cruelty and prevents the crimes. People should do justice in their individual affairs plus a judge should always give a decision based on justice. Quran guides us about justice very clearly and we should learn from the Holy Quran about the good deed of justice. The following translations of the verses of Quran guides us about justice;
“We have already sent Our messengers with clear evidences and sent down with them the Scripture and the balance that the people may maintain [their affairs] in justice…” (Quran, 57:25)
“Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.” (Quran, 16:90)
However, there are many other good deeds about which Quran guides us and we can learn those by understanding Quran clearly. Thus, the basic teachings of the Holy Quran guides us about all the matters of life and if we want to have a successful life both in this world and the Hereafter, then we should take guidance from the Quran. Lastly, we can change ourselves in a better way by following the basic teachings of the Holy Quran honestly.
