Sadaqah can be defined as a charitable act that is voluntary and is done with another person. There is a great significance and benefits of Sadaqa. Muslims seek the pleasure of Allah by giving this voluntary charity.
Sadqah in its literal sense means, “righteousness” and giving charity or alms voluntarily. In Islamic terminology, Sadqah means giving something to someone with the intention to please Allah (SWT) and without asking something as an alternative in return. Sadqah is given for the sake of Allah which helps the needy or poor. However, it’s not important that Sadqah should be only money or anything with physical existence. Other things like even smile can be Sadqah. The Holy Prophet (SAWW) said, “To smile in the company of your brother is charity…” (Bukhari)
There is a great importance of Sadqah in Islam and its significance can be known by the following points;
In the above mentioned translation of verse of the Quran, there is a mention of spending from what Allah has provided us.
In the above mentioned hadith, Holy Prophet (SAWW) stated about Sadqah that further shows its importance.
It is also charity to show the way to a person who is blind which shows the significance of Sadqah.
“The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.” (Quran, 2:261)
“The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.” (Tirmidhi)
“Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity.” (Tirmidhi)
Thus, Sadaqah introduces goodwill in society among individuals when one person gives another person monetarily help or shows other kind acts towards others like smiling or showing a way to the blind person. Hence, the effects of Sadqah in a society are very positive which also shows its importance and benefits.
