6 Facts about the Battle of Karbala that you must know

The battle of Karbala is the most painful story in the history of Islam. It took place on 10th Muharram, 61 AH in Karbala which is known as Iraq today. The battle of Karbala and its martyrs are remembered every year in the month of Muharram by the Muslims across the world.

Yazeed at that time was a great oppressors who oppressed the Muslims and beloved family of the Holy Prophet (SAWW). The hearts of Muslims ache today even when they talk about the Battle of Karbala because it is really painful and heart wrenching story. Today, we will focus on some 6 facts about the battle of Karbala that every Muslim should know and learn from many as well.

  1. The first martyr in the battle of Karbala was Ibn-e-Aqeel:

    Ibn-e-Aqeel was the nephew and son-in-law of Hazrat Ali (RA). He was married to Hazrat Ali’s (RA) daughter named Ruqqaiya. Hazrat Hussain (RA) sent Ibn-e-Aqeel to Kufa for the people residing over there with full guidance. Ibn-e-Aqeel was then martyred by the army of Yazeed later. Thus, he was the first martyr of the battle of Karbala.

  1. Hazrat Hussain (RA) went to Karbala without any army because he was going there to establish peace and not war:

    Hazrat Hussain (RA) went to Karbala without any army but with only 72 people in which there were children and his own family members. This is a clear manifestation that Hazrat Hussain (RA) went to Karbala to make peace and not war.

  1. The first thing done by Hazrat Hussain (RA) after reaching Karbala was to buy his land:

    Hazrat Hussain (RA) when reached Karbala, the first thing he did was to buy his own land over there. He was later martyred over there.

  1. The youngest martyr of the battle of Karbala was Hazrat Ali Asghar (RA):

    Hazrat Ali Asghar (RA) was the youngest martyr of the battle of Karbala who was just six months old.

  1. Zain ul Abideen (RA) was the only male who survived in the battle of Karbala:

    Zain ul Abideen (RA) was the only male who survived in the battle of Karbala. He actually didn’t take part in the battle of Karbala because he was ill. But after the martyrdom of Hazrat Hussain (RA), he was imprisoned with other women and children who remained alive in the battle from the family of Hazrat Hussain (RA).

  1. The man from the army of Yazeed came to Hazrat Hussain (RA) and joined him:

    Hur was the person who was part of the army of Yazeed and he came to Hazrat Hussain (RA) and joined him. Hur was also the same person who stopped Hazrat Hussain (RA) and his family members to get the water. But Hur came to Hazrat Hussain (RA) and asked for forgiveness. Hazrat Hussain (RA) forgave him and thus, Hur joined him.

The battle of Karbala is a painful part of the Islamic history in which Muslims oppressed Muslims, in which Yazeed oppressed the family of the Holy Prophet (SAWW). We must remember Hazrat Hussain (RA) and everyone who sacrificed for the cause of Islam.
