Eid ul Fitr 2019: Things you need to know about this Eid

This year, Eid ul Fitr 2019 will mark the end of Ramadan just like this Eid does every year. Eid ul Fitr is celebrated after Ramzan and is a day when Muslims meet and greet each other. It is celebrated by the Muslims across the world when the moon of Shawal is sighted. However, there are many things which Muslims must know about this Eid.

Eid ul Fitr is actually an Arabic term which means “fest for breaking the fast.” This Eid is celebrated on the first day of Shawal, which is an Islamic month that comes after Ramadan. Muslims greet with “Eid Mubarak” on Eid ul Fitr to mark the celebration of Eid.

When is Eid ul Fitr 2019?

Eid ul Fitr 2019 is expected to be on 4th June, 2019 in Georgian calendar. The date of Eid ul Fitr keeps on changing in Georgian calendar as Islamic calendar depends on the moon sighting.

What Muslims do on Eid ul Fitr?

Firstly, Muslim men go to the mosques for the Eid prayers. They meet and greet each other. Also, they eat delicious food on this Eid to mark the celebration of this month. They usually eat sweet dishes on Eid ul Fitr which is why this Eid is also called meethi Eid.

What Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) used to do on this Eid?

There are certain things which Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) used to do on this Eid which are mentioned below;

  • He (SAWW) used to offer Eid prayers at Eid ul Fitr. Hazrat Jabir bin Samurah narrated that “I prayed with the Messenger of Allah (SAWW) the two Eid prayers more than once or twice, without an Adhan or Iqamah.” (Muslim)
  • Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) also used to eat dates on Eid ul Fitr. It was narrated by Hazrat Anas (RA) that, “Prophet (SAWW) did not go (to the place of prayer) in the morning on the days of Eid-ul-Fitr till he ate some dates, and he used to eat an odd number.” (Bukhari)
  • Changing of routes on Eid ul Fitr is also a Sunnah of Holy Prophet (SAWW). He (SAWW) would go from one and return from another route. It was narrated by Hazrat Jabir (RA) that, “On the day of Eid the Holy Prophet (SAWW) used to return by a different route from the one he had taken when going out.” (Bukhari)

Significance of Eid ul Fitr:

There is a great significance of Eid ul Fitr and it produces great impacts in a society if celebrated properly and as per the Islamic rules. Eid ul Fitr comes as an event of joy for the Muslims who take it as their gift after Ramzan. Eid ul Fitr is also a way to have social gatherings which can develop harmony in the society.

Hadith about Eid ul Fitr:

There is a mention of Eid ul Fitr in various ahadees which also shows its importance.

It was narrated by Hazrat Anas (RA) that, “Holy Prophet came to Madinah, the people had two days in which they used to entertain and amuse themselves. He asked: “What are these two days?” They said: “We used to amuse ourselves and take pleasure in these two days during the Days of Ignorance. The Messenger of Allah (SAWW) said, “Allah has substituted for you something better than these two; the Eid of Adha (sacrifice) and the Eid of Fitr .” (Sunan Abi Dawood)

Thus, Muslims must know all these things about Eid ul Fitr so that they can celebrate Eid ul Fitr 2019 and all the coming Eids according to Sunnah of the Prophet (SAWW) which is the best way to celebrate this Eid.
