The fourth Kalimah of Islam is Kalimah Tauheed which means the “Word of Oneness.” Tauheed itself means the belief in the oneness of Allah which is the basic part of a Muslim’s faith. The Kalimah Tauheed in Arabic is as follow;

lā ilāha illā-llāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu lahu l-mulku wa lahu l-ḥamdu yuḥyi wa yumītu wa huwa ḥayyu lā yamūtu abadan abadan dhu l-jalāli wa l-ʾikrām biyadihi-l khayr wa-huwa ʿala-kulli shayʾin qadīr

Translation:

“(There is) no god except Allah – One is He, no partners hath He. His is the Dominion, and His is the Praise. He gives life and causes death. He is eternal. He will never die. Possessor of Majesty and Reverence. Within His Hand is (all) good. And He is, upon everything, Able (to exert His Will).”

Explanation:

The fourth Kalimah of Islam can be explained in a way that Allah is One and there is no God except Him. Only He deserves to be worshipped. Allah is unique in His existence. He has no partners and He is alone; Allah has no off springs and parents. He is the King and our Master; all praises are for Him. He is unique in His attributes. Only He has the power to give life and only He can take the life away by causing the death. Allah is Ever living and Eternal which means that He will never die. He is Great and there is goodness within the hand of Allah. He has power over everything and He rules  everywhere and on everyone and everything.

Concept of Tauheed in fourth Kalimah:

The fourth Kalimah is all about the concept of Tauheed which means the belief in the Oneness of Allah. The belief in the uniqueness of Allah and that there is no God but Allah Who is One and Only is the concept of Tauheed. Without believing in Tauheed, one can’t be a Muslim.

Concept of Tauheed in the light of Quran and Hadith:

  • “Your Deity is Allah alone: there is no deity save the All-Beneficent and the All-Merciful Allah.” (Surah al-Baqarah 163)
  • Narrated by Mu’adh bin Jabal that the Prophet (SAWW) said, “O Mu’adh! Do you know what is Allah’s right upon His slaves?” I said, “Allah and His Messenger know the best.” The Prophet (SAWW) said, “To worship Him (Allah) Alone and not to add partners in worship with Him (Allah). Do you know what is their right upon Him?” I answered, “Allah and His Messenger know the best.” The Prophet (SAWW) said, “To not to punish them (if they do so).” (Hadith, Volume 9, Book 93, Number 470)

Importance of Kalimah Tauheed:

The significance of Kalimah Tauheed can be understood via following hadith;

  • “Whosoever recites “Kalimah Tauheed” after entering into the bazaar, Allah Tala writes 10 lacs good deeds (naikyan) for him, and removes 10 lacs sins and his 10 lacs levels are raised.” (Hadith)

The fourth Kalimah Tauheed is the basic belief of every Muslim and all the Muslims strictly adhere to this belief as without this basic principle of faith, a person can’t be a Muslim. Moreover, learning the fourth Kalimah just like other Kalimahs is very important for a Muslim in order to know the spirit of their religion.
