Second Kalimah of Islam

Friday, March 1, 2019 / 0 Comment(s)

 The second Kalimah of Islam is Kalimah-e-Shahadat and it means the word of evidence. The Kalimah Shahadat in Arabic is as follow;

Translation:

“I testify that (there is) no god except Allah; One is He, no partner hath He, and I testify that Muhammad is His Servant and Messenger.”

Two parts of second Kalimah of Islam – Tauheed and Risalat:

Like the first Kalimah, there are also two parts of second Kalimah of Islam namely; Tauheed and Risalat. Tauheed means the belief in the oneness of Allah and Risalat means the belief in the prophet hood of Muhammad (SAWW). Both of these beliefs are basic parts of the faith of every Muslim. Without believing in these two basic principles, one cannot be a Muslim.

“Say, I, Muhammad (SAWW), am only a mortal like you, it is revealed to me that your Allah is (only) One Allah.” (18:110)

Tauheed:

Tauheed is the first part of the Kalimah Shahadat that there is no God but Allah. There is no one like Him in existence and attributes. He is the One and Only; None is like Him. He has no off springs and no parents. His attributes are only His and Allah has powers and traits that aren’t found in anyone else. His powers of knowledge, will, hearing, sight and many others are only His and none possesses such characteristics.

Concept of Tauheed in the light of Quran and Hadith:

  • “Allah, your Lord; there is no deity but Allah; He is the Creator of everything: so worship Him alone, for He is the Guardian of all things. No sight can comprehend Him but He comprehends all sorts of sight, for He is All-Comprehensive and All-Aware.” (Al-Mai’dah)
  • “We sent Noah to his people: he said: O my people, worship Allah alone; you have no other deity than Him.” (Al-Mu’minun)
  • “Faith has more than seventy branches, the most important of all is to believe truly that no one is worthy of worship except Allah, and the least one is to clear some obstacle lying on a path.” (Bukhari, Muslim)

Risalat:

The second part of the Kalimah Shahadat is Risalat which means to believe that Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) is the worshipper or servant and messenger of Allah. Hazrat Mohammad (SAWW) is the last prophet of Allah on whom Quran was revealed which is the last book of Allah. Holy Prophet (SAWW) was sent to bring people out of darkness and lit their lives with the light of Islam. The message of the Holy Prophet (SAWW) is not limited to one community but is universal. Without believing that Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) is the last prophet of Allah, one cannot become Muslim.

Concept of Risalat in the light of Quran and Hadith:

  • “Say Oh men! I am sent unto you all, as the Apostle of Allah, to Whom belongeth.” (Quran)
  • “I have sent by Allah to carry His Divine message to the whole world. And the line of Prophets has come to its final end in me.” (Muslim, Tirmizi, Ibn-e-Majah)

Learning Kalimah Shahadat is also very important and we should teach our kids this and also all other kalimahs in order to make them closer to their religion – Islam.
