Quran is the last book of Allah which He revealed on the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAWW). There are many surahs in Quran and it is one of them which is based on eleven verses. This surat of Quran takes its name from the very first word of the Surah i.e., Ad-Duha. There are many benefits of this Surah which we must know. Surah Duha – benefits, meaning and translation are as follow;
Arabic:
بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمٰنِ الرَّحيمِ
وَالضُّحَى ○ وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا سَجَى ○ مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَى ○ وَلَلْآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لَكَ مِنَ الْأُولَى ○ وَلَسَوْفَ يُعْطِيكَ رَبُّكَ فَتَرْضَى ○ أَلَمْ يَجِدْكَ يَتِيمًا فَآوَى ○ وَوَجَدَكَ ضَالًّا فَهَدَى ○ وَوَجَدَكَ عَائِلًا فَأَغْنَى ○ فَأَمَّا الْيَتِيمَ فَلَا تَقْهَرْ ○ وَأَمَّا السَّائِلَ فَلَا تَنْهَرْ ○ وَأَمَّا بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ فَحَدِّثْ
Wad duhaa. Wal laili iza sajaa. Ma wad da’aka rabbuka wa ma qalaa. Walal-aakhiratu khairul laka minal-oola. Wa la sawfa y’uteeka rabbuka fatarda. Alam ya jidka yateeman fa aawaa. Wa wa jadaka daal lan fahada. Wa wa jadaka ‘aa-ilan fa aghnaa. Fa am mal yateema fala taqhar. Wa am mas saa-ila fala tanhar. Wa amma bi ni’mati rabbika fahad dith
“By the forenoon (after sun-rise); And by the night when it is still (or darkens); Your Lord (O Muhammad) has neither forsaken you nor hated you. And indeed the Hereafter is better for you than the present (life of this world). And verily, your Lord will give you (all i.e. good) so that you shall be well-pleased. Did He not find you (O Muhammad) an orphan and gave you a refuge? And He found you unaware (of the Qur’an, its legal laws, and Prophet hood, etc.) and guided you? And He found you poor, and made you rich (self-sufficient with self-contentment, etc.)? Therefore, treat not the orphan with oppression, And repulse not the beggar; And proclaim the Grace of your Lord (i.e. the Prophet hood and all other Graces)”
This Surah was revealed when Holy Prophet (SAWW) thought that he might had committed any mistake as the revelation stopped to come. Thus, in Surah Duha, consolation was given to the Prophet (SAWW). Firstly, by swearing an oath by forenoon or bright light and by stillness of night, it is stated beautifully that Allah has neither forsaken not hated the Holy Prophet (SAWW).
Then it is stated the Hereafter is better than this world’s life and Allah will give what is good to the Holy Prophet (SAWW) as Allah is addressing him here. Further, it is stated that Allah has been good to Muhammad (SAWW) since his birth. He was born orphan but he received love and upbringing. Prophet (SAWW) was shown the right path and made rich. Lastly, the Surah ends with Allah giving instructions to His Messenger (SAWW) to not to oppress orphans and not to repulse the beggar and proclaim the Grace of Allah (SWT).
We can earn great rewards by reciting Surah Duha as it is the Surah of Quran and upon reciting one word of Quran we can gain specific rewards. Likewise, we can recite Surah Duha to gain rewards and seek the pleasure of Allah. Moreover, this surah can help us to gain mental and spiritual peace as the words of this Surah really soothes the mind, heart and soul. Thus, Surah Duha has great benefits.
