The concept of tawakkul in Islam means trust and reliance on Allah. In every difficult situation that Muslims face, he/she trusts Allah with whole heart. It is a strong trust on Allah which is a great power of a Muslim. It also means to put trust in Allah and not worrying about the outcomes.

Quranic verses about Tawakkul:

“And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever places his trust in Allah, Sufficient is He for him, for Allah will surely accomplish His Purpose: For verily, Allah has appointed for all things a due proportion.” (Quran, 65:3)

“…And put your trust in Allah if you are believers indeed” (Quran, 5: 23)

“And whoever puts his trust in God, then God suffices him.” (Quran, 65:3)

The Quranic verses mentioned above show the importance of tawakkul in Islam as it has been mentioned in the Holy Quran. One who trusts Allah then Allah is enough for him/her. The person with it depends on Allah alone.

Benefits of tawakkul in Islam:

  1. Difficulties are faced with trust in Allah:

The benefit of tawakkul is that whenever a difficulty comes in the life of a Muslim, he/she trusts Allah. This trust in Allah in hard time saves a person from despair and enables him/her to face the hard time with courage. Moreover, in such time, a person due to tawakkul remains content that everything happens for good.

  1. Dependent on Allah alone:

A person who truly trusts Allah is dependent on none but Allah alone. For such person, Allah is sufficient. A person with tawakkul doesn’t need the help of anyone but that of Allah only. Tawakkul makes a person independent.

  1. Tawakkul gives you power:

Trusting Allah alone gives you a power and you don’t fear anyone but Allah. Your trust in Allah enables you to become independent and thus without dependency on others you become powerful.

Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) said: “Whoever wishes to be the most powerful person among people must trust God.” [Al-Majlisi, Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 15, p. 135, hadith # 71]

  1. Connection with Allah:

Tawakkul establishes a relationship between man and Allah. A person trusts Allah alone and thus expects from Him only. This makes man to share everything with Allah and seek Allah’s help always with a trust that Allah will help. In this way, a connection between the people with tawakul and Allah is established.

  1. Relief from evil and protection from enemy

Having tawakkul provides man relief from all the evils and protects him/her from all the enemies. Thus, a person with tawakkul remains calm and safe.

Hazrat Ali (RA) said: “Tawakkul on Allah is [source of] relief from every evil and protection from every enemy.” [Al-Majlisi, Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 56, p. 79]

Thus, tawaqul is an important concept in Islam and it has different levels as well. Moreover, a person having tawakul believes that everything happens for good and a reason. Hence, tawaqul makes one powerful, independent and content and every Muslim must have tawakul on Allah to attain peaceful and calm life.
